Fontaines D.C. Announce Slane Castle

Fontaines D.C. have announced the biggest headline show of their career, with the Dublin band set to take over the legendary Slane Castle in June 2027.

The enormous homecoming show follows the announcement of their 2026 autumn and winter arena tour across the UK and Europe and will feature support from Hayley Williams, Damien Dempsey and Madra Salach.

The news arrived after a huge weekend for Fontaines D.C., which saw them headline Reading & Leeds before returning home for Electric Picnic. At the latter in County Laois on Sunday night (August 30), the band teased what was coming when the words “Slane 2027” appeared across the stage screens at the end of their set.

Slane represents another remarkable jump in scale for a band whose venues have continued to grow rapidly over the past few years. Fontaines will become only the third Irish band to headline the famous venue, following Thin Lizzy in 1981 and U2 in 2001.

The announcement arrives just days after their first Reading Festival headline appearance, where Grian Chatten and co. delivered an emotional set dedicated in part to their late manager Trevor Dietz. Despite technical and logistical problems shortening the performance, Fontaines closed the night with ‘Starburster’ before cameras found a guitar carrying the words ‘Trev Forever’.

The timing of Slane will inevitably fuel further speculation about just how big Fontaines’ summer of 2027 could become. The show falls during Glastonbury weekend, with rumours surrounding another appearance at Worthy Farm already gathering momentum.

Then there is the question of whether Slane will stand alone.

Rumours of major UK stadium dates, including Wembley and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, circulated earlier in 2026. Nothing has been confirmed, but after Finsbury Park, Reading & Leeds and now Slane Castle, the idea of Fontaines moving into stadiums no longer feels particularly far-fetched. A handful of huge outdoor shows across Britain and Europe next summer would represent another step up, but this is a band that has spent the past few years making each supposedly enormous venue look like preparation for the next one.

Before any of that, Fontaines have their biggest tour to date.

The run begins in Lisbon on October 21 before travelling through Europe, with dates including Madrid, Bologna, Prague, Berlin, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Paris.

The UK leg begins at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena on November 20, followed by Manchester’s AO Arena on November 21, Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on November 22, Leeds’ First Direct Arena on November 24 and Birmingham’s Utilita Arena on November 25.

The tour finishes with another landmark moment at London’s O2 Arena on November 27.

For a band that were still playing Dublin clubs a decade ago, arenas would once have represented the destination.

Now they have Slane Castle waiting.
