Sam Fender Announces ‘Proper Massive Stadium Tour’ for 2027

Sam Fender has announced his ‘Proper Massive Stadium Tour’ for summer 2027, including two nights at Wembley, another St James’ Park homecoming and concerts in Cardiff, Dublin, Edinburgh and Manchester. Wunderhorse will support at every UK stadium show, while pre-orders have also opened for Fender’s fourth album.

The announcement answers most of the questions raised by the ‘SF27’ campaign we covered earlier this week. I expected another run of outdoor concerts, but I had suggested Hyde Park and Heaton Park as possibilities. Two nights at Wembley and another pair at the Etihad go some way beyond those predictions.

The tour opens in Newcastle on 3 June and finishes in Manchester on 17 July, with the full dates on the poster below. Wunderhorse will join him for every show except Dublin.

Wembley and Another Newcastle Homecoming

The two Wembley concerts on 18 and 20 June are the biggest announcement here. Fender played London Stadium in 2025, but booking two nights at Wembley is still a considerable step. By the time he walks out there, it will be less than eight years since the release of ‘Hypersonic Missiles’.

‘Seventeen Going Under’ had already taken him well beyond the audience for that debut, and ‘People Watching’ continued that success. His setlists now have room for ‘The Borders’, ‘Spit of You’ and ‘Wild Long Lie’ alongside the singles. That is part of the appeal of these shows. I’d be looking forward to hearing those songs just as much as joining in with the title tracks.

Before Wembley, though, comes Newcastle. Fender will return to St James’ Park on 3 and 5 June, following two nights in 2023 and three in 2025. These concerts will bring his total to seven headline shows at the ground of the club he has supported since childhood.

Those homecomings have a significance that is difficult to replicate elsewhere. So much of his writing concerns North Shields, his family and the people he grew up with. Hearing those songs a few miles from the places that inspired them is a substantial part of what makes the Newcastle concerts such an occasion.

A Fourth Album on the Way

There is new music coming too. Fender’s fourth album is available to pre-order through his official website under the working label ‘SF4’, although its title, tracklist and release date have yet to be announced.

Fender had already spoken about making another record at his Wythenshawe Park concert in August 2025, when he discussed taking time away from touring and returning to the studio. The pre-order gives us something firmer, even if we still know very little about what he has been recording.

‘People Watching’ will be a difficult album to follow. It won the 2025 Mercury Prize, while ‘Rein Me In’ found an even wider audience through the Olivia Dean duet. Its 23 non-consecutive weeks at Number One made it the longest-running UK chart-topper in history, an extraordinary result for a song that first appeared on Fender’s third album.

I’m interested in what comes next because some of the best moments on ‘People Watching’ were away from its biggest singles. ‘Wild Long Lie’ and ‘Remember My Name’ gave him room to tell stories that needed more than a big chorus. Hopefully, there will be plenty more of that on the fourth record.

Wunderhorse Join the UK Shows

Wunderhorse will support in Newcastle, Cardiff, London, Edinburgh and Manchester. They are a welcome addition, and a good reason to get into the ground early. A support slot across eight stadium concerts should also introduce them to plenty of people who have yet to see them.

Dublin’s Marlay Park is the exception, with Wunderhorse not appearing on that bill. Fender will also headline Rock Werchter in Belgium on 3 July, two days after Dublin and ahead of his visit to Edinburgh’s Murrayfield.

A Glastonbury-Sized Hole

There is one other date worth considering. Fender’s second Wembley concert takes place on 20 June, with nothing else announced until Dublin on 1 July. That leaves a Glastonbury-sized hole in the schedule, following the reports linking him with a Pyramid Stage headline appearance.

Neither Fender nor the festival has confirmed anything, so this remains speculation. Still, the tour dates leave him available, and I’ve thought for some time that he should get the opportunity. He already has the songs for it. The prospect of a fourth album before next summer makes it even more appealing.
