Mani United.

A major concert has been announced to honor the legendary Stone Roses and Primal Scream icon, Mani: the 'Manichester' gig will take place on May 30 at Manchester’s 5,000 capacity venue, Diecast. Curated by Damon Minchella; known for his work with Ocean Colour Scene, Paul Weller, and Richard Ashcroft; the event serves as a grand celebration of the bassist's career and influence.

Minchella traced the inspiration for the tribute back to a specific moment during a performance in São Paulo: "I played the bassline to 'She Bangs the Drums' into 'Bittersweet Symphony' while on stage with Richard Ashcroft; the reaction from 80,000 people was insane, just from that one bassline. That is the power and legacy of Mani."

The confirmed lineup includes Cast, Peter Hook, and The Kowloons; furthermore, a specially assembled house band will feature musicians closely connected to Mani: Stone Roses guitarist Aziz Ibrahim, ex-Happy Mondays member Rowetta, ex-Primal Scream member Simone Butler, and Mick Rossi from Slaughter and the Dogs.

Organised by Madchester.com and GIOGOI, the event has the full blessing of Mani’s family. It aims to unite artists who played with him, learned from him, or were shaped by the iconic low-end rumble that changed British music forever. All proceeds from the night will support Mani’s twin boys, Gene and George: a gesture honouring the love and strength that defines their family.

Adding to the event's prestige, John Squire has designed the official artwork; his new imagery will feature on flyers, promotional materials, and limited edition physical tickets.

Speculation is also mounting regarding a potential headline appearance by Liam and Noel Gallagher alongside the remaining members of the Stone Roses. It is rumoured that the Oasis brothers, John Squire, and Ian Brown may be joined by Johnny Marr of The Smiths and Peter Hook of Joy Division and New Order to pay homage to Mani.

A source commented: "Plans for these superstars to appear are well underway, though details are being kept under lock and key; it is going to be an incredibly special night where Mani will be honoured by the great and the good of the music industry."

Proposed Setlist

  • The Stone Roses: 'Sally Cinnamon'; 'She Bangs the Drums'; 'Fools Gold'; 'I Wanna Be Adored'; 'I Am The Resurrection'
  • Noel Gallagher: 'Half The World Away'
  • Noel & Liam Gallagher: 'Live Forever' (Acoustic)
  • Peter Hook: 'Blue Monday'; 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'

It is worth mentioning that all of this is only rumours so far; nothing has been confirmed regarding the group. If it were to happen, it would most certainly be something very special: a true super, super group that would bridge decades of Manchester's musical heritage. The prospect of seeing these icons share a stage has already sent shockwaves through the fan base; it would be a once-in-a-lifetime event that cements the city's place at the heart of rock history.

All proceeds from the night will support Mani’s twin boys, Gene and George: a gesture honouring the love and strength that defines their family. This outpouring of support reflects the deep respect the industry holds for Mani; it is a way for the community to rally around the boys and ensure they are looked after: a fitting tribute to the family spirit that Imelda and Mani always championed.
